The following link will take you to the TruckStop to the 6 page press release Toshiba issued about the technology & the launch: The press release gives a basic review of the lenticular technology used to derive the glasses free 3D imagery. This press release will provide you with everything we know from Toshiba. As a side note… At the recent Toshiba dealer trip, Scott Ramirez, VP of Television Marketing for Toshiba, explained that glasses free 3D TV in the US would likely not be available until a new technology called 2K-4K is available for mass production. The 2K-4K prototypes do have some issues with viewing angles of 3D. His estimation was it would likely be late 2011, at best, before any glasses free 3D product would be available in the US. The 2K-4K technology comes at a price premium 3x – 4x higher than current retail 3D price levels. Between now and then, the technology focus is really on passive 3D technology, which still requires glasses, but the glasses are more like the Ray Ban glasses you get in the theater. Of course, technology in this industry and product plans in this industry change faster than the weather in Iowa. So, anything could be possible, but the above gives you a general guidance of where Toshiba thinks things are headed as of today.
